Quinton Business Man Leads Google to Local Service Companies
One Quinton business owner is helping local service companies and contractors find more work, with a little help from Google.
Have you ever thought about what it takes for a local company to show up first when you search for something on Google? Quinton business owner Scott Walker thinks about it every day. His company, ContractorWebWorks.com specializes in getting local services and businesses to show up first in Internet search results.
“If you want to find new clients, you have to put your information in front of people when they need your services,” said Walker. “For most people, the first place they look is the Internet.”
A recent study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project supports Walker’s belief. According to the study, 78% of Americans research services and products online before purchasing them.
“It goes to show that more traditional methods of promotion, like telephone directories, are being replaced by search engine websites like Google,” said Walker. “If a local company wants the opportunity to quote new business, their website needs to appear on the first page of results when searching Google for the services they provide.”
When you search for a term using a search engine you get a list of websites that contain that term. Searchers tend to visit websites that are at the top of this list.
It takes more than putting a website online to show up on the first page of search results. Walker uses a technique called search engine optimization (SEO) to make local service companies show up in searches. SEO helps search engines find and rank specific websites higher than the millions of other websites that are relevant to a search. “SEO is especially effective for small businesses in rural areas like New Kent and Charles City,” said Walker. “The result connects residents with local companies that may have been overlooked for companies with larger marketing budgets.”
Hector Martinez, owner of the Quinton service company No More Dirty Roofs, has been working with Walker for close to a year. “I’ve been in business for 16 years, and have tried all types of marketing. Over the last few years I’ve had to change the way I do things, to keep up with the market. My website has become my best source for leads and referrals,” said Martinez. “It’s easy for local companies to get overlooked in favor of a Richmond or Williamsburg company. Showing up on Google when people need me has helped me stay in front of potential clients, and remain competitive.”
Walker was raised in Quinton, and graduated from New Kent High School before earning his degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. ContractorWebWorks.com is headquartered in New Kent County and provides websites and marketing services to local service companies and contractors.
